The main hulls on the 'basic' tanks are ABS plastic, so they will take quite a bit of knocking around, however driving down steps, into walls etc will do damage to them, especially the smaller trim parts and potentially the barrel. These may not stop the tank from functioning (except maybe firing BBs if the barrel gets damaged), however will affect looks. As sold, they are primarily designed to run on fine carpets and flat surfaces however, if you wish to get use of them outdoors more, we would recommend going for the metal tracked versions as they also have metal gearboxes instead of the nylon ones.
Basic controls are left, right, forward and back for movement and left, right, cycle up/down and fire for the turret control. They are really easy to drive however for indoor use we would not recommend firing the BBs. Shins sting when shot by them and they do have the power to break ornaments and terrorise pets! Let's not even discuss unprotected eyes...
The Smoke & Sound versions use an internal smoke generator which run on 'smoke oil', of which you get around 25-50ml with the tank itself. Re-filling is simply dropping 3-4 drops of the oil down each smoke tube when it stops to smoke and this will last a considerable amount of time. I'm still using the original oil I got with my Tiger over 2 years ago, however longer, more regular use may shorten how long it lasts. The sound generator uses a digital sound chip and speaker to imitate the full range of sounds that a real tank makes! From ignition startup to revving, tickover and the rattly engine shutdown is closely imitated and adds that extra dimension towards realism.
Everything you need to run the tank is included except the eight AA batteries for the RC transmitter. Included is a rechargeable main tank battery, charger, sample BBs, smoke oil, aerial, RC transmitter, manual, target, accessory set, decals and even a Commander (ready to paint).
